Never Forget Our Helper!
Share
As Kingdom Citizens, we have a helper that is often missed because of incorrect positioning our eyes. The focus must be eternal not physical, and if not, we must seek redirection. This blog post is a reminder to return, never forgetting our helper, the Holy Spirit, moving forward.
The Holy Spirit is given from God to Jesus and is given from Jesus to the Disciples to take on the position of another helper. He stays forever revealing the truth about God. (John 14: 15-16, Good News Bible). Jesus makes it clear that the world can not receive or know the Holy Spirit. The Disciples know the Holy Spirit because he remains and is within. (John 14:17, Good News Bible). Jesus goes on to share with the Disciples that the Helper, the Holy Spirit will teach everything and make them remember all that he has said. (John 14:26, Good News Bible). Wow! The Holy Spirit is our teacher too. The promise of the Holy Spirit occurs later in this book. Afterwards, Jesus gives them a gift which is His peace of mind and heart that is not of the world along with two commands not to be troubled or afraid. (John 14:27, NLT).
Jesus breathed on the Disciples saying receive the Holy Spirit. (John 20:22, Good News Bible). This takes place in the similar manner when God breathes life giving breath into Adam's nostrils and he begins to live. (Genesis 2:7, Good News Bible).
It’s important to breakdown the keyword receive:
-
There is a prefix at the beginning of the word (re) meaning again
-
Ceive is from the Latin word "capeere" meaning get
-
The word re + ceive = again get
Jesus breathed the Holy Spirit on the Disciples for them to again get what Adam had before committing sin. Here is where the promise of the Holy Spirit is given. This does not apply to people living in the world because they are not Disciples. The Holy Spirit carries out two of many important roles within and readily available. He is the helper and teacher, and we must continually go to him first. Yes, I have gone to people seeking them helpers and teachers before seeking the Holy Spirit. Unfortunately I was not receiving the truth, and all of that stuff was stuck in my mind and heart for years causing confusion and being unsettled which is the equivalent to being stuck. Now that is unrest not peace. Make the decision not to waste any more time, which is why I shared Scriptures to study to get revelation daily.
Here are some applications for encouragement to look, listen, and learn for the Holy Spirit to carry out his roles:
Sit quietly to listen to the Holy Spirit’s voice during prayer time
Write down what the Holy Spirit says during prayer time
Say silently throughout the day, Holy Spirit help me, teach me, reveal to me what God wants me to know, and Jesus’ teachings
Read, write, and reread Scriptures about the Holy Spirit’s role as helper and teacher
Thanksgiving for the gift of the peace of mind and heart that Jesus left
For peace, write and speak silently, and loudly on index cards, post-it-notes, journals, notebooks, etc…I will not be troubled, I will not be afraid, and I am grateful for the gift of peace from Jesus.
